I never knew him, the son lost in Iraq;
Your grief touches me still, my friends.

If all goes according to plan this sweet little mixed breed dog has finally found a home she can depend on.
She was returned to The Willamette Humane Society three times in her first 14 months. No wonder she’s a little confused.
In a few days Susan Carey and I think she will be part of the family. The cats are cool with the idea. The people are cool with the idea. Now we just need Lizzie Penny to get used to the notion.

Susan Carey & Jamie Wyant
The Willamette Humane Society held their annual dinner/auction costume affair last Saturday. My friend and colleague Ted deChatelet was the emcee, and my friend and partner Susan Carey, pictured above, was the host.
I had a great time. We raised more than $38 thousand for the new spay/neuter clinic and another $70 thousand more for general operations.

Riaz loved what he called barbeque, goat rubbed in salt and hot peppers roasted on an open fire. They always introduced her to me before the slaughter. I don’t eat meat anymore.

The set for the season opener, Bad Dates by Theresa Rebeck, at Salem Repertory Theatre in downtown Salem OR is finally finished. Of course things always go wrong the week before opening, hinges break on antique trunks, picture frames mysteriously jump off the wall, and sound ques fail to materialize, (Can a sound materialize?) adding to everyone’s lists of details that need attention. It’s a wonder things ever are finished, but they are, I hope.
The play is set in the bedroom of a rent controlled apartment in New York City. Haley, a single mom with an insatiable love of shoes, jumps back in to the dating world after spending years away to raise her young daughter and grow her career as a restaurateur.
Final dress rehearsal is tonight Wednesday September 17th, preview is tomorrow, and opening night is Friday the 19th. There are still a few tickets left for opening night. Join us for this fun show and the after-show gala, we’d love it.

The second production at Salem Repertory Theatre is a play called ‘Art’ by Yasmina Resa, winner of the 1998 Tony Award for Best Play and the 1996 Olivier Award for Best Comedy. The play opens as one of Marc’s best friends has just bought a very expensive painting.
I’ve finished the set plan. It consists of five concrete monoliths, five stools and a bar. The monoliths will be finished as weathered concrete. The concept is that the concrete was poured years ago and has not been maintained — exposed rebar has rusted, the faces have exfoliated and chipped, and one monolith (#2) has fractured and the top has slipped. The stools will be minimalist, more perch than seat, but have not been designed yet. Bar will also be a concrete block.

Salem Repertory Theatre invited donors and season ticket holders to visit the theatre for a glimpse of the organized chaos that abounds in the couple weeks before a show opens. Many of our guests had never been behind the scenes of an intimate theatre. It was a fun interlude and I especially enjoyed sharing the view from backstage.
I forgot my camera, so no picture with this post. Sorry.
